Our Story
About Third & Oak
The Property
A Boutique Property
Unlike Any Other
Third & Oak is a collection of three privately appointed suites within a beautifully restored property at 315 South 3rd Street — in the heart of Wilmington’s Historic District. With nearly 3,900 square feet across five bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, and 15 reserved parking spaces, this is a property built for gathering.
Each suite has its own private entrance, fully equipped kitchen, and individually curated design. Whether you’re here for a wedding weekend, a family reunion, or a quiet couples retreat, every detail is designed to make your stay feel effortless and elevated.
The property is rooted in Wilmington history — anchored by the circa-1870 Wright-Murchison House — and thoughtfully updated with modern comforts. Step outside and you’re moments from the Cape Fear Riverwalk, award-winning restaurants, and over 200 blocks of historic architecture.

Group Friendly
With multiple suites on-property, Third & Oak is ideal for families, wedding parties, and groups who want to stay together.

The Family Behind Third & Oak

Adam · owner & host
I’m Adam, and my goal with Third & Oak is simple: to create a stay that feels comfortable, thoughtful, and easy from the moment you arrive. I’ve always loved places with character, and my family and I wanted Third & Oak to feel warm, distinctive, and genuinely welcoming rather than generic.
A little about me: I’m originally from New Orleans. Currently, I’m a military musician based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and I also teach saxophone at Old Dominion University. Music has shaped a big part of my life, and it has also framed how I approach hospitality. The details matter, atmosphere matters, and people remember how a place made them feel. At its best, music is about connection and sharing something meaningful — and I think hosting isn’t all that different.
“Third & Oak reflects the things my family values most: character, craftsmanship, hospitality, and spaces that feel personal.”
About Raquel
A big part of your experience at Third & Oak comes from my wife, Raquel, who designed and decorated all of the units. She is the owner of Danilo’s Fine Leather, a family business founded in Honduras in 1974 by her father, Danilo Martínez. What began as a one-man operation grew into a company known for distinctive leather goods, strong values, and a deep commitment to craftsmanship.

The carved birds & ducks
You’ll notice carved birds and ducks throughout the property. These were all handmade by my grandfather, Alfred “Al” Muller of New Orleans, a legendary duck decoy carver, woodworker, and artist whose work was deeply rooted in Louisiana’s outdoor culture. Over the years, Al’s work was featured at the Smithsonian, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and the Louisiana World Exposition. He was also a carving instructor at Delgado Community College and was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the Louisiana Antique Decoy Collectors.

Whether you’re planning a wedding weekend, a getaway, a family visit, or time to explore Wilmington, I hope a stay at Third & Oak feels relaxed, memorable, and worth repeating — and I’d love to help you plan it.
Warmest regards,
Adam
